Kalmar forklift trucks and maintenance services to ensure safe and reliable steel handling at Outokumpu’s Tornio plant, Finland

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 31 MARCH 2021 AT 1 PM (EEST)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded an agreement to supply a total of seven Kalmar forklift trucks for Outokumpu’s Tornio stainless steel plant in Finland. The order, which also includes a 5-year Kalmar Essential Care service agreement, was booked in Cargotec’s 2021 Q1 order intake with delivery scheduled for Q2 and Q3 2021.

Outokumpu’s Tornio plant is the most integrated stainless steel operation in the world. The plant consists of two melt shop lines, a hot rolling mill, a cold rolling plant, brushing and polishing as well as slitting and cut-to-length lines. The forklifts will be used to transport steel coils around the plant. They will join an equipment fleet that already includes Kalmar reachstackers and light and medium range forklift trucks.

The order includes four light 6 to 8-ton forklift trucks, two 12-ton medium forklift trucks and one 42-ton heavy forklift. Kalmar’s G-generation forklifts feature the latest in fuel-efficient technology and offer low total cost of ownership. They deliver superior uptime and reduced maintenance costs in demanding applications such as steel handling. Kalmar Essential Care service agreement will guarantee that customers can get local service and support whenever they need it.

Santtu Tanskanen, Country Director, Finland, Kalmar: “This order is a demonstration of our ability to provide a complete offering for customers in the industrial sector. The steel industry is an important market for Kalmar and we are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Outokumpu. We look forward to supporting their business operations for many years to come with our world-class equipment and services.”
